Keyboarding Specs by Grade
Kindergarten and First Grade
- Kindergartners focus on letter and number identification as well as location on the keyboard. They will use Typing Tots throughout the year.
- First graders focus on demonstrating proper keyboarding hand and body positions, as well as mastering their home row keys with proper finger position. They will use Dancing Mat throughout the year.
- Second graders will continue to master the home row keys along with understanding and demonstrating proper body and finger position while keyboarding. They will practice the location of letters on upper and lower rows of the keyboard. At school they will be using Typing Club however it's best to practice at home using Typing Web.
- Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders will all be using Typing Club at school to practice their keyboarding skills. The program has been adjusted for each grade level. Students will demonstrate proper body and finger position while keyboarding. They will work towards mastery of touch typing and demonstrate proper use of speciality keys. Students are encouraged to practice at home using Typing Web they can choose to do keyboarding lessons or play games. More practice will help create automaticity with touch typing. Fourth and Fifth graders will receive grades each quarter based on their keyboarding performance according to the rubric below.
